Close to the Mexican border, San Diego’s laid back California culture benefits from sun, surf and some excellent beaches from Coronado to La Jolla. The Mexican influence extends to the food, the ubiquity of Spanish speakers and the annual Day of the Dead celebrations in Old Town. It’s also home to the US Navy’s pacific fleet - and a huge floating museum in the shape of the decommissioned aircraft carrier USS Midway.
