Los Angeles
LA County is a patchwork quilt of people and cultures. On the upside it has Hollywood, a vibrant music scene, a mega-huge tourist industry (pre-covid) - and legions of A-list celebs who live in the exclusive districts of Beverly Hills and Bel Air. On the downside homelessness has spread from Skid Row to Venice Beach - and the third world now rubs shoulders with the first. It’s a land defined by its image - polished in parts, tarnished in others, and almost a perfect fit for the narrative of the late Richard Avedon: “My photographs don’t go below the surface. I have great faith in surfaces - a good one is full of clues.”
