Bernie Sanders’ LA rally
In the days leading up to the 2016 presidential election, Bernie Sanders was on a whistle-stop tour of California. He was fronting rallies in support of Proposition 61 - a statewide initiative to end price-gouging by Big Pharma.
The campaign came to a head with a rally on November 7 in downtown LA’s Pershing Square - but while nobody had a good word to say about drug companies, not everyone was sold on Proposition 61. Some said it covered only a small percentage of Californians in certain government programmes - leaving the rest with higher costs.
In the event, voters were split and Proposition 61 was defeated. Proposition 64, which legalised marijuana in the State, passed.
